NETWORK’s Nuns on the Bus is headed on the road again! This year, we are driving so “We the People” can stand up against big money in the 2014 midterm elections. “We the People” will stand up against income and wealth disparity by voting and encouraging others to vote for the good of the 100%. We are working with a variety of groups to register voters, connect our networks to existing ‘Get out the Vote’ (GOTV) efforts, offer suggestions for ineligible voters to support voting in their communities, and hold our elected officials accountable after the election.

Clothesline Project and Take Back The Night

The annual Clothesline Project is an international advocacy movement that allows participants to creatively express their feelings about power-based violence by decorating shirts with phrases of their own choosing and colors that symbolize different types of violence. Our annual Take Back the Night event includes an activist rally and march. TBTN spreads awareness of and speaks out against sexual violence.

As a longtime expert on Iranian politics and a prominent scholar and public intellectual, Dr. Esfandiari is an outspoken advocate for human rights and women's rights. Her talk will be on "The Women's Movement in Iran and the Middle East." She will interweave her personal experiences with a political history of Modern Iran and the Islamic Middle East. She will also address the current and changing situations of the region from an international feminist perspective.

Women's Circle will host an abbreviated viewing of the documentary with an informal discussion to follow. "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" is a four-hour PBS primetime documentary film and national broadcast event inspired by the widely acclaimed book of the same name by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. WuDunn was the LDCW Women's History Month speaker in 2012.
