Ms. Alden will be analyzing artist Kara Walker’s set of images the “Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War” by looking at the narratives of the images and the influence of history.

“The Feminist Politics of Adoption Today"

Reproductive politics in America has often been define by a woman's "right to choose" to have an abortion, not in terms of the choice to raise one's own child. Sun Yung Shin, co-editor of Outsiders Within: Writing on Transracial Adoption (South End Press 2006) and Jae Ran Kim, MSW and contributor to Outsiders Within, will speak on how the domestic and international politics of adoption should be at the forefront of feminist and critical race discussions regarding global reproductive justice and the human and civil rights of women and children everywhere.

New Moon Magazine is a bi-monthly journal edited by and for girls ages 8 to 14, It is a ground-breaking, imaginative, ad-free magazine and winner of 6 Parents' Choice Gold Awards. Girl contributors from around the world give voice to their dreams and intellect through fiction, poetry, artwork, letters, and articles on different cultures and enterprises.
