In her talk she will explain the research, writing, and overall process each comic goes through before being published. This Feminist Friday talk will also touch on the importance of complex girl protagonists in children's literature. She will show a short, two minute film that she created on this topic. She will do a book signing at the end of the event.

Melissa writes for Bluewater Publishing's imprint called Female Force. Female Force comics are biographical and feature influential women.  In addition to those books mentioned above, she has three more comics coming out later in the year on Tina Turner, Chelsea Handler, and Helen Gurley Brown.

Her comics have been featured in the Huffington Post, KING 5-Seattle News, ABC San Francisco radio show, Parade Magazine, and Broadway.com
