Mentor Externship Program

The School of Law is featured as one of the nation's top law schools for externships in National Jurist Magazine for the second year.  It ranked #1 in the country for having the most externship placements per full-time student based on 2011 ABA data.

The Mentor Externship Program is required in all three years of law school. More than 500 attorneys and judges volunteer each year to mentor our students. The Mentor Externship Program has three primary objectives:

1.  To instill in students a better understanding of the responsibilities of being a professional;

2. To provide students with both an experiential window through which to view the professional world and exposure to the diverse spectrum of work that lawyers and judges do;

3. To create an intergenerational conversation about the practice of law and the profession; Mentors are assigned over the summer and students will learn the name of their mentor at Mentor Externship orientation during the first week of school.
