The University of St. Thomas School of Law is a small, close knit community drawn together by a strong belief in the school’s unique mission. Our students are challenged to become servant leaders. Our faculty and staff are always ready to lend a guiding hand as students develop a professional character and identity that draws on their faith and core values as well as their intellect. This cooperative spirit, as well as a compelling line-up of prominent speakers, stimulating events and open, welcoming activities, contributes greatly to our award-winning quality of life.
As a Catholic law school community dedicated to service and leadership, we know that we are called to work outside the walls of the School of Law. This commitment to service is woven into the law school’s fabric. Each of our students is required to perform 50 hours of community service work during their three years of law school. In the fall and spring, more than 100 School of Law volunteers take part in the annual Community Service Day. Students, professors and administrators spend a Saturday painting, raking, cleaning and completing a variety of service projects in the Twin Cities. Each spring, we pay tribute to involvement and leadership in activities that support the law school’s mission. The annual Living the Mission Awards ceremony recognizes students, faculty and staff who best exemplify the mission by their activities both in and outside of the classroom. One member of each class receives an overall Living the Mission Award, and individuals and organizations receive awards for Excellence in Professional Preparation, Scholarly Engagement and Societal Reform, and Service and Community.
