
Who We Are:
ILA is an organization of law students interested in private and public international law. ILA is deeply committed to bringing together persons of diverse cultural backgrounds who share an interest in international/transnational issues, including both U.S. and non-U.S. born students. It also works with the Dean and Faculty to promote the study of international/transnational law at the University of St. Thomas School of Law.
What We Do:
ILA is an academic and social forum through which students:
•Discuss and debate issues in international law and policy.
•Invite speakers to address international law topics.
•Sponsor symposia.
•Promote careers related to international law in government, diplomacy, business, banking, immigration and human rights.

2. Lawyers Working for Human Rights, November 24, 12:30-1:25 pm: Interested in working on Human Rights issues? Lucy Arimond from the University of Minnesota Human Rights Center and Beatriz Menanteau from Advocates for Human Rights will be talking about their experiences, the organizations where they work, and about the Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship Program. Lucy Arimond supports the work of the Human Rights Center administratively as the Director of Fellowship Programs, and secondarily as an adjunct professor of law. Beatriz Menanteau is a Staff Attorney with the Women’s Human Rights Program. 3. Service to Haiti Project - Winter Break, December/January 2009-10: Ten to twelve students will participate in a service project to an orphanage in Dessaline, Haiti over semester break. Students will perform painting and general construction and create opportunities to engage the children. Concurrently, the ILA chapter will be coordinating fundraising and donation efforts to brings funds and badly-needed supplies for the children. Participants are able to earn significant credit toward the 50 public service hours graduation requirement. Haiti Project Director 2L Jon Scheib has been involved in missions to this orphanage for several years and provides the leadership, excitement, and energy to drive this achievement. ILA Vice President Laura Tushaus developed the extent of the chapter's involvement and coordinates both the practical aspects as well as the fundraising endeavors.4. Summer 2010 Study Abroad Opportunities - January 20, 12:30 pm, Room 235: Our guest is Vinita Bali, JD LLM, who is the Director of the Study Abroad program at Santa Clara University School of Law. She will provide options for individuals to study and intern abroad. SCU provides the largest study abroad opportunities of any US law school.
5. International Summer Service Projects - March 24, 12:30 pm, Room 235: Join us for our final event of the season. We will explore international summer opportunities with human rights and service organizations
