2008 Spring Law Journal Symposium

UST Law Journal hosts "Latin America: Economic Development and Social Justice"

Jorge I. Domínguez, the vice provost for International Affairs at Harvard University will be the keynote spear for the UST Law Journal Symposium on Friday, March 7, 2008.  The symposium will be held at the University of St. Thomas School of Law building in Minneapolis.  Dominguez is a prolific author and scholar on Latin America.  In addition to serving as vice provost, Dominguez is the Antonio Madero Professor of Mexican and Latin American Politics and Economics.

The UST Law Journal’s goal for the symposium is to foster scholarship and dialogue on what obligations and opportunities exist for the North American legal community with neighboring countries to the south.  Speakers will be reflecting on the efficacy of the rule of law in developing economies in order to increase awareness of human conditions that exist when nations undergo profound political, social and economic change.  Part of the symposium will include some individuals involved with the UST International Alternate Dispute Resolution Network which is currently completing a project in Brazil and will expand throughout Latin America in the coming year.

In addition to the keynote speech, the symposium will include three panel discussions.  The panel topics are Law and Social Justice, Economic Growth and Trade, and ADR and Civic Participation.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  The cost of the symposium is $25.00, which includes 4.5 CLE credits that are being applied for.  For more information call 651-962-4855 or register at the website www.stthomas.edu/law/rsvp.
