Myers Speech

University of St. Thomas School of Law hosts Dr. Andrew Myers for discussion of the history of racial integration in the United States military

On Tuesday, February 19 the University of St. Thomas will host Dr. Andrew Myers of the University of South Carolina Upstate for a discussion of the sixtieth anniversary of Executive Order 9981, the Order issued by President Truman that desegregated the United States armed services.

Dr. Myers’ book, Black, White, and Olive Drab: Racial Integration at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and the Civil Rights Movement explored the effect of President Truman’s order desegregating the military not only on base, but in the communities around the military installation.  An accomplished scholar, Dr. Myer also brings additional perspective as a commissioned infantry officer with more than twenty years of combined active and reserve service in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Myers’ talk will be held in room 235 at the School of Law in downtown Minneapolis from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Lunch will be provided, and those wishing to attend are asked to R.S.V.P. to lawrsvp@stthomas.edu
