MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The University of St. Thomas School of Law will host a program “How an Attorney Can Lose Everything By ‘Borrowing’ Client Funds” on September 3 from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. at the University of St. Thomas School of Law Schulze Grand Atrium in downtown Minneapolis. The event will feature Tom White, a former attorney and felon and Mike Colich who served as White’s defense counsel. The discussion will be moderated by Hank Shea, Professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law and White’s prosecutor.
Thomas White a well-known Twin Cities lawyer, was prosecuted for misappropriating approximately $100,000 in client funds. Although White repaid the “borrowed” client funds in their entirety once they were detected missing since he had only used them to pay his legal staff and other business expenses during times of “cash flow difficulties,” he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.
White is a former ethics leader and advocate who fell into a trap of white collar crime. This joint presentation is a unique opportunity to hear this compelling story from White himself, his lawyer Colich, and Hank Shea, a Fellow at the St. Thomas School of Law’s Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions. As a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, Shea prosecuted White, adding an interesting dynamic to this presentation. White offers a personal account of the consequences of white collar crime.
The seminar will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 12:30 – 1:45 pm at the University of St. Thomas School of Law ~ Schulze Grand Atrium in downtown Minneapolis. There is no seminar registration fee, but reservations are requested. To RSVP, please send an email to lawrsvp@stthomas.edu.
The event is sponsored by the University of St. Thomas (UST) Holloran Center for Ethical Leadership in the Professions, UST Criminal Law Association, UST Business and Corporate Law Society and the Center for Ethical Business Cultures.
