The University of St. Thomas is undertaking the most ambitious capital campaign in its nearly 125 year history. Named “Opening Doors: A Campaign for St. Thomas,” the campaign has a goal to raise $500 million to increase access to higher education, build on the university’s academic excellence and enhance the institution’s Catholic identity.
The School of Law is one of the campaign’s priorities. Dean Thomas Mengler hopes to raise more than $40 million for the School of Law. These funds will be used primarily to build the school’s endowment, which, in turn, will assist the School of Law in recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and in providing scholarship aid to students.
The School of Law’s goal of achieving national prominence is principally linked to the quality of its faculty and student body. Endowed faculty chairs and professorships help the dean and his colleagues recruit outstanding teacher-scholars. Student scholarship aid plays a vital role in attracting and retaining students who will enrich the School of Law community, contribute to its mission and help the School of Law achieve its goal of becoming a national law school.
