Borrowing Privileges

Most of the Schoenecker Law Library collection does not circulate because it consists of multi-volume sets, periodicals, looseleaf services, and other materials that must be regularly updated and readily available to all library users.

For those items that do circulate, the standard loan period for University of St. Thomas School of Law faculty, staff and students runs until the end of the current semester. This will vary according to the type of material and category of patron.

Students, faculty, and staff of the University of St. Thomas and other CLIC consortium schools (Augsburg, Bethel, Bethel Seminary, Concordia, Hamline, Hamline Law, Macalester, Northwestern College, St. Catherine's), and St. Thomas alumni with a valid University of St. Thomas borrower's card, may borrow circulating books from the Law Library.

Although members of the community may use the library resources, they cannot check books out. Periodicals and reference materials do not circulate. All patrons must present their valid University of St. Thomas or CLIC I.D. (or University of St. Thomas alumni borrower's card) to check out books.

Items may be recalled by the library at any time if requested by another patron.

Obtaining books from other libraries

Students, faculty, and staff have borrowing privileges at the CLIC consortium libraries, therefore, you may travel to these libraries and present your University of St. Thomas I.D. to check out books.

Books from other CLIC libraries, including other University of St. Thomas libraries, can also be requested electronically through CLICNet.  It typically takes several business days to transfer books between CLIC libraries.

If the book you want is not in CLICNet, you can fill out a web-based interlibrary loan form to expedite your book request.

Obtaining periodicals from other St. Thomas and CLIC libraries

Articles can be obtained by visiting the library in person. Periodicals do not circulate.

If the periodical title is not owned by the UST Law Library, current students, faculty, and staff may submit their article request using a web-based interlibrary loan form. Please note that you will also use this form if the item is owned by any other UST library (i.e. O'Shaughnessy-Frey, Ireland or Keffer Library).
