Computing, Printing and Photocopying

Several public access computers are available within the library to access the online catalog and other library resources. The library provides wireless access to the University’s network, and each table and study carrel is wired for network access.

The School of Law's largest computer lab, with 32 seats, is located in the lower level of the building outside the library. A smaller, 16-seat teaching lab is located next to the main lab on the lower level. There is also a small teaching lab in room 209 of the Law Library reference department, which is available whenever the library is open and no class is scheduled in the room.

Three public photocopiers are located in the library: one in the lower level near the microform room, one on the second floor in the reference department, and one on the third floor. On all the copiers you can charge copies directly to your (or your department’s) print account. Instructions explaining how to do this are posted at the copiers. The copiers on the lower level and level two also accept coins and $1 and $5 bills.

Networked printers are available on three of the four levels of the Law Library (second floor, third floor, and lower level). Students are given an allowance of $40 in “free” prints per semester (400 pages at 10 cents each). Each printed page, whether to a copier or a printer, is charged at the same rate. Printing over the $40 allowance is charged to your student account.

For other computing questions, please contact IRT Client Services at 651-962-6230 or irthelp@stthomas.edu, or access their web site at www.stthomas.edu/irt/helpdesk.

Microforms

The microform collection and two reader/printer machines are located on the lower level of the library. We do not charge for printing microform materials. For assistance, please inquire at Circulation or Reference.

Group Study Rooms

Twelve group study rooms are available in the law library. Groups of two or more law students may reserve the rooms for two-hour blocks of time, and renew a reservation if no other group wants the room. Each room has a sign-up sheet next to the door.

Carrels

There are 24 carrels on the lower level available for faculty research assistants and law students working on the upper level writing requirement. Carrels may also be available by special arrangement for recent graduates who are continuing work on a paper for publication. Carrels are for temporary storage of personal books and library books that have been properly checked out at the Circulation Desk. They may not be personalized (i.e., no photos, flowers, etc.), and personal belongings may not be left there. Students are responsible for keeping their carrels neat. Carrels may be reserved for one month on a first-come, first-served basis, with renewal subject to availability. Carrel reservation forms are available at the circulation desk.
