Professor O'Brien recently retired from the Hennepin County Public Defender’s office, where he practiced for more than 30 years.  Immediately prior to his retirement, he was in charge of the Conflicts Team/Panel at the Hennepin County Public Defender's Office and has been with the office for 32 years. He received a BA in History at St. John's, a J.D. from the University of Minnesota and have an MA in Theology (History) from the St Paul Seminary. This is the fifth year he has been involved with the Externship program. Professor O'Brien has also been a high school coach and served in the Army.
