J.D., University of Minnesota M.A., University of Minnesota B.A., College of St. Catherine Bateson served as director of the law library at William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul since 1989. Bateson co-authored one of the leading textbooks on legal research, The Process of Legal Research (now in its sixth edition). She has led the transformation of the Ugandan legal system by helping to compile, revise and publish the Laws of the Republic of Uganda (a 28-volume undertaking). Bateson has held leadership and service roles with the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, the American Association of Law Libraries and the Minnesota Association of Law Libraries. During her career, Bateson has built an outstanding library collection and staff. She has taught courses in advanced legal research, lawyering skills, federal tax research, criminal law and legislation.
