Attorney Misconduct and its Consequences
Steve Gunther received his law degree from the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, FL in 2000. He passed the Virginia bar later that year and practiced with a legal clinic and then a small law firm till 2005 when he set up his own VA practice, specializing in real estate transactions. In March 2010, he pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in connection with a fraudulent real estate transaction and surrendered his law license. On June 21, 2010, he was sentenced to serve 20 months in federal prison and pay $233,000 in restitution. With Professor Hank Shea serving as moderator, Mr. Gunther will describe the causes of his misconduct and the severe consequences that have resulted. He then will share the lessons that he has learned from his criminal justice and prison experiences. This event is free, open to the public, and expected to be approved for one hour of ethics CLE credit.
