American Violet: A Dialogue on the Intersection of the War on Drugs, Federal Sentencing Policies, and Race
The UST Law Office of Diversity, Multicultural Affairs Committee, and Black Law Student Association are hosting a viewing of the movie “American Violet,” followed by a discussion on the War on Drugs and Federal Sentencing policies led by Prof. Mark Osler and Prof. Nekima Levy-Pounds. The film is based on the civil rights lawsuit Regina Kelly v. John Paschall, filed on behalf of 15 African-American residents of Hearne, Texas who were indicted in November 2000 on drug charges after being rounded up in a series of drug sweeps. The viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 13th, from 5:00-8:00 pm in room MSL 238 and food will be provided. CLE credits applied for.
