First Week & Academic Success Program
First Week is our orientation program and your first week of classes as a J.D. student at the School of Law. During First Week, you will complete orientation, the first week of your Foundations of Justice course and the Academic Success Program. Our goal is to introduce you to the study of law and life at UST Law, and to build community among the Class of 2017.
First Week is mandatory for all incoming J.D. students. In order for us to count you as officially enrolled as a member of the Class of 2017, you must check in for First Week in person on the first day. You will receive a mailing from the School of Law in the end of July, which will include your class schedule.
Incoming students also are invited to take part in the School of Law's four-day Academic Success Program during First Week. In just four days, Scott Swanson, Director of Academic Achievement, will lead the class through the different types of work that will be required in a law school semester. The schedule includes:
Case briefs, class preparation, and discussion of case law regarding homicide.
Continue discussion of homicide and defenses.
Create outline of homicide and defenses. Create group answer to practice essay test question.
Test preparation and practice test (which will be individually critiqued during the early part of the semester, before midterms, so you can consolidate what your have learned in your first law school testing situation).
If you have questions about First Week, please contact the Office of Admissions at (651) 962-4895, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to welcoming you to the University of St. Thomas School of Law community!
