Remembering Vatican II

Thursday, Oct. 11 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

University of St. Thomas School of Law, Room 244

1000 Lasalle Ave., Minneapolis, MN

On Oct. 11, 1962, Pope John XXIII delivered the opening speech for the Council of Vatican II, considered by many to be the most significant event for the Roman Catholic Church and Roman Catholic theology in the 20th Century.

The Council lasted three years and resulted in the issuance of a number of important documents on a range of subjects including the theology and role of the Church, liturgy, and the role of the laity.

On this, the 50th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II, Prof. Susan Stabile and Fr. Dan Griffith will discuss some of the major themes of the council. Our hope is to better educate all of us about what Vatican II did and didn’t do, and to explore why some people view the council as a great step forward for the Church and others as the blame form any of the Church’s struggles today.

As lunch will be served, please RSVP to Bethany Fletcher at

This event is being co-sponsored by the Holloran Center and the St. Thomas More Society.
