The 2015 MJF Summer Clerkship applications open on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and close on Monday, December 1, 2014. Summer Clerkship Agencies Announced: MJF will release the participating agencies for the 2015 MJF Summer Clerkship Program at the Quad Law School Public Interest Expo (QPIE) at Hamline. 

Tuesday, October 28, 2014, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Quad Law School Public Interest Expo (QPIE) at Hamline: Meet representatives from government and public interest agencies from all over Minnesota. RSVP in Symplicity by Monday, October 27.

Applications Accepted: Students upload application materials and apply to selected employers through Symplicity. Application details will be released in late October.

MJF Staff Attorneys Review Applications: Applicants will be notified by a MJF Staff Attorney if they did not follow the grade blind application guidelines. 

Week of January 19, 2015

Interview Notifications: Hamline will notify applicants of interviews and coordinate interview sign-ups.

Week of January 26, 2015

Mock Interviews: The UST Law Office of Career & Professional Development will coordinate mock interviews for applicants who receive an interview.  

Week of February 2, 2015

Interviews at Hamline: MJF Summer Clerkship interviews will take place at Hamline in 2015. Contact your professor as soon as possible if you have an interview during class.

Week of February 9, 2015

Summer Clerkship Offers Extended: Each agency will rank their top three candidates and candidates are contacted in rank order. Contact Career & Professional Development to discuss multiple offers. 

Spring 2015

MJF Summer Clerkship Orientation at Hamline: All MJF Summer Law Clerks must attend the MJF Summer Clerkship Orientation. Details will be released in early Spring 2015.

What are MJF Summer Clerkships?

MJF Summer Clerkships are summer clerkships with public interest, government and non-profit agencies from the Twin Cities Metro and Greater Minnesota. Each clerkship is funded through donations and paid via stipend. The complete list of participating agencies will be released at the Quad Law School Public Interest Expo (QPIE) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 and at http://www.mnjustice.org/

How do I know if I am eligible to apply for MJF Summer Clerkships?

You are eligible if you are:

  • Enrolled in a Minnesota law school
  • In any semester but your final semester of your academic program

How are applicants picked to interview?

Each agency will pick their own applicants. Each agency is required to interview applicants from each law school, and at least one first year student. 

What will my time commitment be during the summer?

You will be required to complete 400 hours of legal service between the last day of the spring semester and the first day of the fall semester. The 400 hours of legal service are generally completed via a 40 hour work week over 10 weeks. 

How do I apply for MJF Summer Clerkships?

Applications for the 2015 MJF Summer Clerkships will open on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and close on December 1, 2014. Application instructions will be released in late October 2014. You will be able to apply for up to 10 agencies by submitting a resume and cover letter via Symplicity. Applicants may not contact agencies directly regarding the MJF Summer Clerkship program or application. You may be asked to supply a writing sample if you are selected to interview. 

IMPORTANT: You may NOT include your law school, undergraduate school GPA, class rank, or any other academic honors such as being a member of the dean's list, receiving a dean's award, or receiving an academic scholarship. You may include a scholarship awarded on a basis other than grades, but discuss it with Christy Botts before you apply to ensure it meets the grade blind criteria.

2014 MJF Clerkship Student Application Instructions will be released in October 2014. 

Are MJF Clerkships paid clerkships?

MJF Summer Clerks who receive their clerkship though this application program are provided a stipend of $4,500 if they are clerking in the Metro and $5,000 if they are clerking in Greater Minnesota. 

What agencies are participating this year?

The complete list of agencies and job descriptions will be announced at the Quad Law School Public Interest Expo (QPIE) on Tuesday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m. Once these details are released they can be found in Symplicity and on the Minnesota Justice Foundation website.
