Here are a list of frequently asked questions regarding MJF clerkships and the application process in general.  For more in-depth information please refer to the 2013 MJF Summer Clerkship Student Application Instructions or email Dan Winterlin at daniel.winterlin@stthomas.edu.

What are MJF Summer Clerkships?

MJF Summer Clerkships are summer clerkships with public interest, government and non-profit agencies from the Twin Cities Metro and Greater Minnesota.

How do I know if I am eligible to apply for MJF Summer Clerkships?

You are eligible if you are:

  • Enrolled in a Minnesota law school,
  • In any semester but your final semester of your academic program, and
  • A 2012-2013 MJF student member. (In addition to applying online, this
  • $20 membership fee must be paid to the UST-MJF Student Chapter, by the application deadline of January 29 at 5:00 pm). There are a couple of ways to pay this fee. Students can write checks and give them to Megan Volk or leave them for Megan in the student services suite. Checks can be made out to UST-MJF Student Chapter. Cash is also accepted. Students who pay with cash should put it in an envelope with their name on the front. Those can also be left for Megan Volk in the student services suite or under her office door.

How are applicants picked to interview?

Each agency will pick their own applicants, but they are required to pick multiple applicants from each law school as well as interview at least one first year student.

What will my time commitment be during the summer?

You will be required to complete 400 hours of legal service between the last day of the spring semester and the first day of the fall semester; generally, 40 hours a week for 10 weeks.
