NALP Policies for Students

Ruder Ware On-Campus Interviews

Ruder Ware, a full-service law firm with more than 40 attorneys and locations in Eau Claire and Wausau, Wisconsin, is seeking two 2Ls for its summer program. Each summer associate will spend half of the summer in the Wausau office and half of the summer in the Eau Claire office. The students will be exposed to all areas of the firm's practice. Ruder Ware will provide housing in each location.

Initial interviews may be conducted via Skype or video conferencing.

Ruder Ware summer associates may have the opportunity to participate in or work on the following:

  • Client meetings and negotiation sessions
  • Transaction due diligence and closings
  • Pre-trial discovery, including depositions
  • Pre-trial preparation and trials
  • Mediation and arbitration hearings
  • Drafting client letters, briefs, motions, contracts, and other documents
  • Assisting with the preparation of client education and information materials

Ruder Ware has hired summer associates from UST Law in the past and it has always been a very good experience. The deadline to bid for this position is February 12, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).  Do not let that deadline stop you from applying! Summer Associate Success Program

Great program for anyone who wants to know what it takes to be successful in their summer job! This program presented by Briggs and Morgan attorneys explains what it is like to be a summer associate, but the lessons they teach are applicable for all summer employment. Open to all classes.

Clerking with the Minnesota Supreme Court & Court of Appeals

Join Justice Dietzen from the Minnesota Supreme Court, Judge Johnson from the Minnesota Court of Appeals and their clerks for the inside scoop on the Minnesota Supreme Court and Court of Appeals application process. This program is set up by the Minnesota Judicial Brach in order to give UST Law students the information they need to successfully apply for a Minnesota Supreme Court or Court of Appeals clerkship.

Details for the 2014 clerkship application process will be explained at this program. This is a great program for 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls!

Minnesota Women Lawyers (MWL) Law Student Interviewing Development Event

The event will be kicked off by a brief presentation by Nancy Lochner on networking and informational interviewing. Students will then have the opportunity to mock interview with attorneys who will provide anonymous written feedback to each student participant. This feedback will be very useful to law students as they continue to hone their interviewing and networking skills.

This event is FREE. Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Space is limited to 25 students.

The Minnesota Third District Public Defender's Office in Owatonna is hiring summer law clerks. Applicants should have a strong interest in working as a public defender and must be work study eligible. Some exposure to criminal law is a preferred, but not required. A successful applicant will have a strong work ethic and possess a willingness to learn by doing.

The UST Law - MJF Public Interest Fellowship (PILF) is an annual grant for current UST Law students. This year, for summer 2014, a minimum of two (2) $4,000 UST-MJF PILF grants can be awarded. This is a fantastic opportunity to turn an unpaid internship into a paid internship.
