Federal Work Study
There are two ways to obtain Federal work study. The first is to apply to a Federal work study job through Symplicity and the second is to obtain Federal work study through a current volunteer position. The following two checklists and flowchart will help you navigate the Federal work study process.
Symplicity Federal Work Study Posting
- Fill out your FAFSA. Be sure to have the current FAFSA completed. Summer eligibility is based on the next academic year’s FAFSA.
- Talk to Financial Aid about work study to obtain a Federal Work Study Application Form. Complete the student section of the Federal work study Application form.
- Apply for a work study job in Symplicity. Be sure to include your Federal Work Study Application Form.
- Get hired!
- Determine with your employer what you will earn per hour and how many hours you will work (in most cases, this will be part of the job posting in Symplicity).
- Email Dean Fitzpatrick at nbfitzpatrick@stthomas.edu the number of hours you will work per week and what you will earn per hour.
- UST will email a confirmation of your official Federal Work Study Award to you and your employer.
- Start work!
Current Volunteer Position
- Fill out your FAFSA. Be sure to have the current FAFSA completed. Summer eligibility is based on the next academic year’s FAFSA.
- Talk to Financial Aid about work study to obtain a Federal Work Study Application Form.
- Discuss work study with current volunteer placement.
- Visit "Where to Work" to see if your employer qualifies. If it is not listed on webpage as approved, email lawcareers@stthomas.edu to determine if your volunteer placement qualifies for the Federal Work Study program or visit "Getting an Employer Approved for Work Study".
- UST will verify that your employer qualifies and set up a contract with employer.
- Determine with your employer what you will earn per hour and how many hours you will work.
- Email Dean Fitzpatrick at nbfitzpatrick@stthomas.edu the Federal Work Study Application Form, the number of hours you will work per week and what you will earn per hour.
- UST will email a confirmation of your official Federal Work Study Award to you and your employer.
