CPD Staff and Mission

Our Staff:

Kendra D. Brodin, Director of CPD

Kendra D. Brodin has been named the Director of Career and Professional Development for the University of St. Thomas School of Law.  She earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree with honors from the University of Minnesota.  Brodin also received training at the Institute for Life Coach Training and is qualified neutral under Minnesota Rule 114.

Prior to joining the School of Law, Brodin practiced law with a focus on litigation and civil mediation.  She has extensive experience working with attorneys and law firms in professional development areas such as the retention of women attorneys, leadership for lawyers, conflict resolution, work-life balance, career satisfaction, and time/stress management through law firm consulting, individual coaching, and teaching variety of Continuing Legal Education courses.  Brodin also has experience in nonprofit management and is a committee chair for committees of the Minnesota State Bar Association and Minnesota Women Lawyers.  She is a regular contributor to leading blogs for lawyers and has had articles published with the American Bar Association and the National Association of Women Lawyers.

Catherine Powell Finnegan, Assistant Director of CPD

Before joining the University as a career counselor for law students, Cathy worked as an attorney in a variety of capacities. At the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, Cathy worked in Consumer Enforcement and represented the Minnesota Departments of Commerce and Public Safety. She also worked in employment law and business and commercial litigation at Fredrikson & Byron, P.A.  Cathy has completed her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology in the University of St. Thomas School of Applied Professional Studies.  She received her B.A. from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and her J.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dan Winterlin, Coordinator of CPD

From 2004-2007 Dan was a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy.  After being honorably discharged he moved to Minnesota and earned his B.A. in Geography and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems from the Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Dan is currently working towards his Master's degree in Leadership and Student Affairs from the University of St. Thomas.

Our Services:

Students can find help in shaping their vocational goals and understanding the career options a law degree creates.  We can also help with practical skills such as resume writing and interviewing.  Finally, we host numerous programs throughout the year that provide useful information for planning your career.

Employers are invited to post jobs on our website and to participate in On-Campus Interviews.  We also invite employers to connect with our students through career development programming or by assisting with mock interviews.  CPD is also happy to promote off-campus events hosted by local employers.
