Long distance service at the university is handled a bit differently than long distance service at home. Read on for more information about rates, accessing long distance numbers, and billing.
Long Distance Carrier
We purchase our long distance services through USAcomm, Inc.
Rates
St. Thomas offers flat rates for all domestic calls. Although these rates may fluctuate with market rates, they will always remain less than direct-dial. To take advantage of these rates, use your St. Thomas long distance authorization code (described below).
Our domestic flat rates are:Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. $.10 per minute
Weekends all weekend $.10 per minuteBecause international rates vary, please contact the Tech Desk for more information specific to your needs.
Obtaining an Authorization Code
If you are an on-campus student, you already have an authorization code assigned to you. When you arrive on campus in the fall, you receive an email in your St. Thomas account giving you your phone number, your voicemail information and passcode, and your long distance authorization code. If you did not receive this information, contact the Tech Desk.
If you are an off-campus student but would like to take advantage of our long distance rates (while on campus) contact the Tech Desk for an authorization code.
Note: There is no charge for your long distance authorization code if you do not use it.
Dialing Long Distance Calls
After obtaining a long distance authorization code, dial 8 + 1 + area code + number. At the tone, enter your code and your call will complete.
Long Distance Billing
Long distance statements with detail of calls will be sent to your email account each month and the total amount (no detail) will appear on your tuition account. Payments may be made at the Business Office in Aquinas Hall, first floor window or sent to Business Office AQU116.
Important!
You are responsible for calls made with your authorization code. Don't share it! Lost or misplaced authorization codes must be reported immediately to Information Resources and Technologies. A $30 replacement fee will be assessed for a new authorization code.
