MyStorage

An introduction to MyStorage, an individual storage directory for all students, faculty, and staff...

MyStorage

As a St. Thomas student, faculty or staff member, you can create and store personal documents on our network.  This is an excellent resource for storing papers, resumes, and other files you don’t want to lose — and you can access these files from either on or off campus. This central storage space called "MyStorage", is backed up nightly, so it is much more reliable than floppy, zip disks or USB keys.

Your MyStorage directory has 750MB of storage space, and is available from any workstation or lab computer on campus, and can also be remotely accessed from off campus (see below). Access to your MyStorage folder is controlled by your UST NetID and password, so it’s private.

On lab PCs, this storage directory is automatically mapped to your U:\ drive; a shortcut called MyStorage is placed on both PC and Mac desktops. You can save documents to this directory using an application’s “Save” function, or by dragging-and-dropping files into the icons.

MyStorage is a great place to save documents; and remember it is backed up nightly so you don’t have to worry about losing any of your important files.

  7. Click "Next",
  8. Enter a name for the network place,

Note: You may choose the name of the connection, but it is recommended to leave the default naming convention as is, or choose "MyStorage".

NOTE:  Despite Microsoft's documentation to the contrary, this process does not always work with some installations of Windows Vista (and presumably Windows 7).  You may still connect to your MyStorage drive via any web browser, by simply entering "https://mystorageweb.stthomas.edu/yourNetID".  Once connected, you will be able to access and copy files to a local computer from your MyStorage directory, but you will not be able to upload, drag and drop files, or make changes to the directory itself.

  5. Click "Connect"
  6. Enter your UST NetID for the username, your NetID password for the password, and UST for the domain
  7. A shortcut to the folder will show up on your desktop, or along the left side of an open window.
