Symantec Endpoint Protection FAQs

The following are common questions asked about SEP Anti-virus Software...

1.  How do I know the SEP is installed?

Look at the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If there is a gold shield icon with a green dot if SEP is installed and running.

Please see the instructions
page install SEP.

2.  I already have a virus protection program - what now?

1. It is recommended that you have only one Anti-Virus program on your computer. If you have more than one, the programs start to fight over which one has control and your machine performance will start to lag.

2. Now that you know you should have only one Anti-Virus program, you will need to decide what program is best suited for your needs. Here are some things to think about when making this decision.

  • Does your current Anti-Virus program Auto-Update?
  • Does your current Anti-Virus program have an Access Scanning?

If you answered "no" to either of the above questions we recommend you uninstall your current Anti-Virus program and install SEP from here.

  • Does your current Anti-Virus program require a subscription?

If you answered "yes" to this question we recommend you uninstall your current Anti-Virus program and install SEP from here.

3. If you do decide to install SEP please make sure to uninstall your old Anti-Virus program first. This can be done through Add/Remove Programs or from the Applications folder in the Start Menu. The location of this is application specific and can change depending on the vendor or your current Anti-Virus software.
