Unauthorized Long Distance Calling of Voicemail

The university prohibits charging long distance call to another person's authorization code, telephone credit card, or a third-party number. Similarly, you may not use another person's voicemail pass code. Penalties for unauthorized use of codes include:

  • The deactivation of codes held by the person found abusing the codes of another.
  • The deactivation will remain in effect for the remainder of the school year.
  • Those responsible for such abuse will be held liable for the full costs incurred.
  • Disciplinary action as deemed necessary by the director of Residence Life and/or the dean of students.

Telephone Maintenance and Repairs

Report problems with telephones, jacks, long distance, computer connections directly to Information Resources and Technologies Tech Desk, ext. 2-6230. Problems resulting from abuse or misuse of telecommunications equipment or facilities will result in charges to the student telecommunications account.

Malicious Calls

If you receive a malicious call, follow these suggestions:

  • Hang up at the first obscene word.

  • Hang up if the caller remains silent the second time you say "Hello." Remember that you control your telephone.

  • Never give out information such as your name and address until the caller has been identified.

  • If you receive more than one malicious call, notify Public Safety at 2-5100. The Safety and Security staff will contract telecommunications should a trace need to be installed.

Students who make malicious calls, on or off campus, are subject to the penalties described above.

Right to Privacy

The University of St. Thomas does not monitor telephone or voice mail activity. Only in cases of personal emergency or technical difficulties would UST telecommunication staff require access to voice mail boxes. Every effort would be made to contact the customer before accessing a personal voice mail box.

 Moving Notification

Notify IRT if you move off campus. You may continue to purchase voicemail and use our long distance services (from a UST phone only). Please notify us as soon as you know your new location and move date.
