Your NetID Account
This is your primary UST account. Your NetID and password allow you to, among other things, log on to UST domain computers, log into the email server, and access UST network resources from non-UST computers.
You are automatically assigned an account when you become part of the UST community. Your UST account consists of a Net ID (username) and password.
New Accounts
Hiring Managers
If you are a hiring manager and need to begin the account creation process for a new employee, please use the New Employee Web Form
Faculty/Staff & Adjuncts
Once the "New Employee Web Form" has been processed by the Human Resources department, your hiring manager will receive a confirmation email. This confirmation email will contain a NetID claim code and all the other information necessary to activate your account.
Adjunct faculty will get an account once either their contract or their new hire paperwork has been submitted to Human Resources. HR's new employee web form should not be submitted for adjunct faculty.
Student
New student accounts are created after the student has been formally accepted to UST. It takes approximately 24 hours for the account creation process to be completed. If you have questions about the admissions process please contact your admissions coordinator.
New students will receive a NetID and account claim code in the mail shortly after acceptance at UST.
Vendors/Contractors/Guests
The IRT Account Request Form can be used to create NetID accounts for vendors, consultants, and other guests that need access to UST’s electronic resources.
Once the form is filled out, you will receive a confirmation email from IRT that contains a NetID claim code and all the other information necessary to activate the guest account.
Activating Your Account
All new faculty, staff, and students may use the account activation process by visiting: www.stthomas.edu/new. You will need to have a NetID claim code in order to complete the activation process. If you do not have access to your claim code, please contact the IRT Tech Desk.
This web page will walk you through setting up your NetID password, and activating your account. For questions about your Net ID account visit the Net ID FAQs page.
Passwords
You may select any password you like as long as it meets the following conditions:
- Your password needs to be at least 6 characters long.
- Your password needs to include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers.
- Your password may not include your first name, last name or Net ID.
At St. Thomas, your email password and your account password are one and the same. When you login to a computer on the UST network to read your email the UST server validates your password.
Passwords expire every 120 days. Advance warning of upcoming password expirations begin when the user logs into any computer on the UST domain 14 days prior to the expiration. Repeated reminders pop up each time at login until the expiration date or until the password is changed.
Warnings do not appear for users logging into email on non-UST domain computers.
Any account holder may change his or her password at any time, and it is not necessary to wait for expiration.
If you do not know your password, or would like to change an expired password visit the Net ID system and select forgotten password.
If you are unable to change your password by using the password changing page, please visit the password changing support page, or contact the IRT Tech Desk.
Account Expirations/Purges
The Net ID system automates the process for e-mail account expirations and purges.
The automated system enables more frequent and systematic notification to affected account holders, as well as enhancing network information security by ensuring that inactive accounts are closed in a timely manner.
Net ID will expire inactive accounts, based on existing UST policy, according to the following time table:
Students 365 days after last active term Faculty 730 days after last active term Staff Last day worked
Guest 180 days from account creation
Account holders will receive e-mail messages notifying them of their account expiration at 90 days, 30 days, seven days, and one day prior to the expiration date. The messages will include information about what will happen once the account is expired, as well as contact information for where questions can be directed. The notification e-mails will also include information for alumni on how to set up a lifelong free “alumni.stthomas.edu” e-mail account from The Quad.
Once accounts are expired access to UST network resources such as e-mail and MyStorage will be lost. Net ID will then automatically purge accounts and their associated data 30 days after expiration, unless the account is re-activated. Accounts will be re-activated if the account holder undergoes a change in status at the university (i.e., registers for classes or is re-hired) during the inactive time frame, and up to 29 days past the date the account expires.
Please note that purged accounts cannot be recreated, nor can data from them be restored.
