
Anyone who has an active Net ID and password is able to connect to the wireless network, once they have registered their computer.
Note: Guests can also access the wireless network with Internet-only access.

1. Who can use the wireless network?
The wireless network is available to UST students, faculty, and staff who have a valid Net ID and password.
2. Where are the wireless locations?
St. Paul:
Currently wireless connectivity is available for use in all public spaces on both the St. Paul and Minneapolis campuses.
- All of St. Paul including the Residence Halls
The wireless network is also accessible outdoors on the St. Paul campus in the following areas:
- Foley Theatre (between Murray-Herrick & Foley)
- Sabo Plaza (South Campus outside of O'Shaughnessy Science Hall and Owens Science Hall)
- The Lower Quad (O'Shaughnessy Hall across to O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library)
- The Upper Quad (outside of the Residence Halls)
Minneapolis:
- All of Minneapolis
3. What do I need to connect to the wireless network?
- A laptop computer running Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Mac OS X.
- A wireless network card. It must be a Wi-Fi certified wireless network card that is 802.11g compatible.
- Anti-virus software. You can download Sophos for free by clicking here.
- Set up and register your computer before using the wireless network.
4. How do I connect to the wireless network?
- Open a web browser and visit any website other than UST.
- Enter your Net ID and password when prompted.
- Read through the Acceptable Network Usage Policy then type in your Net ID and password to register your computer.

5. I am having problems getting connected, any advice?
Look in the lower left-hand corner of the window. If you are stuck on the "Initializing IPSec Link", this means you are not getting an IP address. Please try the suggestion below to make sure your computer is set for DHCP by:
6. Does it cost anything to use the wireless network?
There is no direct charge for using the wireless network.
7. Can I print from the wireless network?
You cannot print from the wireless network. However, if you need to print a document created on the wireless network, we suggest saving it to removable media (e.g., floppy disk or USB key) and printing from a public lab computer.
8. How secure is the wireless network?
The network itself is not encrypted. However, UST applications such as email, Blackboard and Murphy Online are secure sites, encrypted via SSL. Look for the URL to change from http:// to https:// or the little lock in the lower right hand corner to know if you are on a secure site. This applies to any other Internet service as well that uses SSL encryption. If you see either of these signs, your browsing on a secure page.
