Information & instructions on how to set up your mobile device to receive UST email.
NOTE, before attempting to use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) 2007: Please be aware that devices connected to EAS at UST require a higher level of security. If you do not currently lock your device, a policy downloaded to your device may force you to enter a password, or modify your existing password, before proceeding with synchronization. The password policy requires a password of at least 4 characters, locking no more than 10 minutes after last use, and expiration after 120 days. The system will not let you reuse one of your previous 6 passwords and will allow you to fail no more than 10 times before disabling and wiping the device.
EAS Configuration
Depending on the device, you will need to supply some, or all, of the following information to turn EAS on :
Email address
Your UST email address (do not use an alias e-mail address)
Domain name
stthomas.edu
Username
Your UST NetID
Password
Your UST NetID password
ActiveSync server
mail.stthomas.edu
SSL
enabled
The following items should be noted:
If you choose to synchronize your Mailbox, Contacts, and/or Calendar with Microsoft Exchange, your device may wipe its existing information. You may or may not receive a warning.
Limited management of your ActiveSync connection, as well as password recovery on some devices, can be found in the Options area when logged into Outlook Web Access.
The Exchange servers will attempt to push out any new messages, contacts or calendar items as soon as they arrive in your Exchange Inbox. As a failsafe, your ActiveSync device will be told, via the security policy, to check the server every hour to re-synchronize and catch up in case there has been a disruption in service.
Due to the varied number of devices which exist and individual vendor implementations of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, the information above is subject to the capabilities of the device and service provider. Some experimentation may be necessary to determine the abilities and restrictions on your individual device.
WARNINGS: It should be noted that ActiveSync is not a managed service. Once a device contacts the Exchange servers, Exchange ActiveSync will make a best effort attempt to communicate with that device. Any failures on the part of the device or Exchange are not recorded and the device will simply stop working. Users are responsible for maintaining a current backup (to a non-UST computer) of all information on the device. IRT cannot recover any lost images, music, or other data on a device which has been wiped or no longer functions as expected.
