Type above to search for any department within the University of St. Thomas, or click any link to the right to go straight there. The list will automatically shorten as you type.
After the file finishes downloading you may see a dialog box that states “Savosx48ni.dmg” contains an application. Are you sure you want to continue downloading “savosx48ni.dmg”?" Click "Continue".
If your Sophos Anti-Virus Network Installer does not automatically open go to Step 6, if the installer does automatically open skip steps 6 & & and proceed to the "Installing Sophos" section below.
After the file has successfully been downloaded locate the file in the folder where it was saved on your computer.
Double-click the file Sophos Anti-Virus.mpkg
Installing Sophos Anti-Virus Network Installer
In the window “Welcome to the Sophos Anti-Virus Network Installer” click "Continue" for the installation to begin.
You will need to select the destination for the Sophos File on your computer. Click "Choose" then select the "Application" folder. To proceed click install.
Note: You will need an administrator password to install on your computer.
Click the “Close” button. Now you are ready to install Sophos.
Install Sophos Anti-Virus
Go to your Applications folder >Sophos Anti-Virus > ESOSX then double click the file “Sophos Anti-virus.mpkg".
Click "Continue" if you recieve a the following dialog box: "This package contains a program that determines if the software can be installed . Are you sure you want to continue?"
Click "Continue" again.
On the Welcome screen click "Continue".
Click "Continue" for your default destination.
Click "Install" for an easy installation.
Enter your administrative username and password.
Click "Close" when you see the window “The software was successfully installed”.
The Installation is complete when the Sophos Anti-Virus icon is blue.
Configuring Sophos
Locate the Blue Sophos icon on the upper right side of your desktop and click on "Open Preferences".
Under the tab for AutoUpdate select "Company Web Server". Type in http://sophos.stthomas.edu/macosx in the box for "Company Web Server".
Note: You may need to click on the lock then enter your administrative username and password to make these changes.
Next type in your UST Net ID in the user name field and your password in the password field.
Note: You will need to update Sophos every time you change your Net ID password.
Click on "Set" to confirm your preferences.
Under the Scanning tab, make sure the box is checked for “Show Sophos Anti-virus icon in system status bar".
Under the Scanning tab use the pull down menu to select "Disinfection” then select "Enable disinfection". Next Select "Action on Infected Items" and choose what you would like to happen for infected files (recommend delete).
Click "Set" to set your preferences.
Close the dialog box once you have made these selections.
Under your Blue Sophos Icon in the upper right side of your menu bar, pull down and select “Update now”
Note: Sophos Anti-Virus will update itself automatically from the update source that you specified. By default, it will do this every 60 minutes, provided that the computer is connected to the Internet. You may change this setting in the AutoUpdate tab using the “Scheduling” tab.
Troubleshooting
If the icon is gray, this means that the on-access scanner is not running and your computer has no on-access protection against threats.
If a red circle with a white cross in it appears over the Sophos Anti-Virus system tray icon, Sophos Anti-Virus failed to update itself.
