Site Migration Process

Site Migration Process

An overview of site development and migration.

Work continues on redesigning web sites from our old environment into the new Collage environment, under an IRT project-managed process. This work has proceeded in phases, with academic sites being re-designed first, followed by student-service sites and then administrative sites.

The redesign of a UST web site to Collage is the result of close collaboration between IRT departments. The process proceeds in stages. At each stage, specific tasks are completed by both the IRT team and the client team. Here is a brief summary of the stages:

  • Client Migration Request
Explore user needs, migration timeline developed.

  • Pre-Kickoff Meeting
    WMS discusses client needs.

  • WMS Creates Rapid Prototype
    Site skeleton is created.

  • Kickoff Meeting
WMS meets with client to review the site prototype.

  • Training
Collage training is scheduled and conducted with client.

  • Content Creation/Build-Out
Skeleton site handed off to client for content creation.

  • Fine-Tuning
Client meets with WMS to review site for modifications.

  • Go-Live
WMS creates go-live notification and notifies client.

How Long Does the Process Take?
Typically the entire process will take about eight weeks to complete.  The migration length can vary depending on many factors including availability of staff to help create content, other competing projects in your department or office, and the number of migrations that Web & Media Services currently has active.
