Mapping Printer to PC

Getting Started

Windows XP, Windows 7

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Click on “Devices and Printers”
  3. Click on “Add a printer” to start the wizard.
  4. Click “Add a network printer” and Next
  5. Click on “The printer that I want isn’t listed” and Next
  6. Click on “Find a printer in the directory based on location or feature” and Next
  7. In the Name box, type building code and room number with no space, e.g., MCH332
  8. Click on Find Now
  9. The list of printers in your building will appear
  10. Double click on the printer in the list that you wish to map
  11. You will see a progress bar and it may take a few minutes to complete
  12. You will get a message that you have successfully added the printer, click Finish
  13. The next window asks if this printer should be the default printer, and if you wish to print a test page. Answer and click Finish
  14. If you go back to the Devices and Printers window, you will see the new printer shown and the green checkmark to indicate it is the default printer

To remove a printer

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Click on “Devices and Printers”
  3. Select the icon of the printer you wish to make the default
  4. Under File,  choose “Remove Device”
  5. Restart your computer

To change your default printer

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Click on “Devices and Printers”
  3. Select the icon of the printer you wish to make the default
  4. Under File, choose “Set as default printer”.
