Printing Support

Overview

In 2005, the university administration partnered with student leadership to implement a print management program on campus. The program goal is to encourage responsible printing. In 2011, IRT gathered student feedback and made improvements to print management. A summary of the findings and changes made to the program can be found in this article published in The Newsroom.

Students receive a quota each semester of $40.00 for printing and copying. For more information, please see the Student Printing and Copying page.

All general purpose printing/copying on campus is controlled through a print accounting software program called "Equitrac". Equitrac tracks printing and duplication activities based on the logon information, either UST NetID or UST budget index code.

Printing supplies, such as staples and paper, are available through the Service Center’s Scoop program: http://scoop.stthomas.edu. Toner for purchased/department-owned printers can be ordered through Purchasing Services.

Leased printers on campus are monitored for toner automatically. The "Auto Toner" system will automatically trigger a replacement cartridge to be sent to the Tech Desk when the toner is low. Tech Desk staff will then replace the cartridge and return the used cartridge to UST’s print vendor to be recycled.

Devices may still give a “toner low” alert, which should be disregarded. If you notice print quality is affected contact the IRT Tech Desk, and Information Resources and Technologies will replace the cartridge or dispatch a technician to troubleshoot.

UST does have an outside vendor, Marco, Inc., to facilitate any or all hardware repairs to managed printers. Marco has an on campus presence, and can best be reached for any necessary repairs by first contacting the IRT Tech Desk.

Getting Started

The printer nearest to the computer you are using should already be mapped by default. However, if you wish to use a different printer, instructions for changing to a different printer and for mapping printers are listed below. Faculty and Staff are able to map personal computers to departemental printers, these instructions are provided on the faculty printing page.
