Welcome Back Students from Information Resources and Technologies

|

Information Resources and Technologies (IRT) welcomes you back to campus with a reminder about computing security and technology services provided to students. Check out the IRT website for more information and follow IRT on Facebook and Twitter to see the most up-to-date news and technology alerts.

Phishing: Don't Take the Bait!

Phishing emails attempt to trick users into providing confidential information by posing as legitimate email.  They typically ask for a username and password or to click on a link and then provide personal information in a web form. Responding to phishing emails allows phishers to log into accounts and access your personal information, which could lead to identity theft. The University will never ask you to reply to an email with your username and password. When in doubt, check our Twitter feed or contact the Tech Desk.

New Print Management System

Over the summer, UST’s printing environment was upgraded with a new print tracking software called PaperCut.  The system emphasizes cost reduction and sustainability through the PaperCut user webpage, which shows quota balances and environmental impact.  Follow me printing allows students to print from anywhere (including home) to a UST printer and then release the print with a UST ID card swipe after arriving on campus.

The student print quota will continue to be the equivalent of 400 grayscale pages, or $32 per term based on a cost of 8 cents per-page for grayscale and 50 cents for color.  Duplex printing (back to back) will be the default on all campus print devices to reduce paper usage.

Printing is available from personal computers to a UST printer by installing the PaperCut software or through printing via WebPrint, a feature within PaperCut.  More information and instructions for printing on campus is available on the Student Printing webpage

UST’s Mobile App

UST’s new Mobile App is now available! The Ellucian Go app is available in both iTunes for Apple iOS and Google Play for Android devices.  The App was developed in partnership with University Student Government and UST departments to provide current students with information about their class schedule, grades, campus events, maps, dining services locations and menus, library resources, and the shuttle schedule.  To access the App, download the Ellucian Go app for your particular device.  Select “University of St. Thomas (MN)” from the list of schools.  Once selected, the UST page will appear anytime you open the Ellucian Go icon. More information is available on the IRT website for the UST Mobile App.

Get Microsoft Office for Free

Through the University's enterprise agreement with Microsoft, students are able to download and install Microsoft Office365 desktop applications at no cost on a personal PC or Mac computer.  The program provides access to Office 365, a full version of Office, including: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and more to all UST active students (registered for a class with an active account). If you wish to learn more or download the Office products please visit our Office 365 webpage.
