Technology Training and Skills Development
Information Resources and Technologies continues to provide staff and resources to help our UST faculty and staff more effectively use our technology tools for the advancement of our University mission. We continue to develop and deliver a variety of training and learning opportunities for our standard enterprise-wide and desktop applications, in partnership with the Leadership Academy and other departments, as needed.
Microsoft Office
MS Office is the standard desktop software application suite at UST, and includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Help with MS Office includes:
- Documentation, Quick-Reference Guides, and Video tutorials are available through MS Office Online. To connect to MS Office Online from within Word, Excel, or PowerPoint:
- In any MS Office application, from menu bar, click: Help - Microsoft Office Online.
- You are taken to the MS Office Online web site.
- Use the "Products" tab to find your Office application and version.
- Use the "Help and How-To" tab to jump directly to support resources.
- Spend some time on this site. There are LOTS of good resources.
Blackboard
Training and other learning resources for Blackboard are available as follows:
- Classroom training is offered several times per year, and announced through the Bulletin Today, and/or the Faculty Center for eLearning web page. A department-specific session can be arranged for a group of faculty within one department. Those faculty should contact their Academic Technology Consultant for arrangements
- The IRT Blackboard support page includes helpsheets and videos for many BB tools.
- Your IRT Academic Technology Consultant can help with specific Blackboard-use questions.
Collage
Training and other learning resources for Collage are available as follows:
- Classroom training for Collage is arranged as part of the department web-migration process.
- For departments that have already migrated to the Collage environment, and have an employee who needs training in Collage, please contact your IRT Academic Technology Consultant or CORE team member with the request.
- The IRT Collage support page includes additional helpsheets for using the Collage editor.
Internet Native Banner
Training and other learning resources for Internet Native Banner are available as follows:
- The Banner Orientation web page provides an overview on how to get an account, and a series of videos to introduce an employee to the basics of using Banner.
- Department-specific training is conducted by the employee's department for the required job skills.
- Banner task-specific resources are available at a number of department web sites, such as the Registrar and Controller's Office.
- The IRT Enterprise Systems support page has documentation and user guides for Internet Native Banner.
Murphy Online
Training and other learning resources for Murphy Online are available as follows:
- Classroom training for Murphy Online-Finance tools is offered regularly by the Controller's Office through the Leadership Academy.
- More Murphy Online-Finance resources are at the Controller's Office website.
- Murphy Online-Students & Faculty information is available at the Registrar's website.
Cognos ReportNet
Training and other learning resources for Cognos ReportNet are available as follows:
Outside UST
For those software applications where training is not available through UST, we recommend visiting the Computer Education Center of the Science Museum of Minnesota.
