National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) has been collecting data from students at four-year colleges and universities around the country since 2000 to assess the extent to which students engage in educationally effective activities. In the spring of 2005, the University of St. Thomas (UST)collected NSSE data from 1,271 first-year and senior students. The Office of Institutional Research and Analysis (IR&A), in collaboration with Academic Affairs, the College of Arts & Sciences, and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs analyzed the data collected from questions pertaining to diversity, active learning, and community engagement.
The data was then compared to better understand the differences in student engagement between first-year students and seniors at UST. In addition, UST students were compared with a NSSE created peer group, other doctoral-intensive universities, and the overall 2005 NSSE sample. The information gleaned from this project will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Higher Learning Commission held in April of 2007. Furthermore, the information was condensed into fact sheets for dissemination to the UST community.

In addition to the fact sheets, IR&A deployed exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to better understand the underlying constructs within the UST data. This document is restricted
