Need a pick-me-up? Try these easy energy boosters:

Drink a glass of water; fatigue is one of the symptoms of dehydration.

Get some sun; you're probably low on vitamin-D and light stimulates the brain's neurotransmitters, dopamine and serotonin.

Rub your earlobes; an acupressure technique for clearing the head and relieving head pain.

Breath deeply from the abdomen to calm the heart and pump oxygen throughout the body.

Drive a new route or practice a new skill; sure to stimulate the brain and raise energy.

And lastly, laugh out loud; humor always improves mood and stimulates new energy.

Health in the News ...

Don't stop getting in those steps just because the "Battle of the Campuses" is over.......

Take a Hike! The Minnesota State Parks Hiking Club offers a fun and easy way to get healthy. As a club member, you hike designated trails in state parks around Minnesota at your own pace and on a schedule that fits your activity level. Record your accomplishment by entering in your club booklet the passwords you'll see posted halfway down the trails. You'll earn a colorful patch after hiking 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, and 190 miles, and a free night of camping after hiking 75 miles. Best of all, you'll earn a spring in your step from knowing you're taking strides toward becoming a healthier you.

Hiking club kits are available for $12.95 at many state parks, or contact the DNR Information Center at 888.646.6367.

Visit the Minnesota State Parks web site to find a state park near you.

Did You Know.....?

Governor Tim Pawlenty has declared 2005 "The Year of Fitness" in Minnesota. As part of his campaign to help citizens improve their health, Pawlenty is encouraging all Minnesotans to log 2005 minutes of exercise and earn the Governors Fitness Challenge Award.

"Certainly one of the great ways to do that is to enjoy Minnesota parks and trails," says Pawlenty spokesperson Brian McClung.

You can keep track of your activity in Minnesota State Parks and elsewhere as you work toward earning the governors award at the Be Active Minnesota Web site, or call 612.863.7848 and request a Governors Fitness Challenge log.
