Wellness Benefits & Programs

Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides cost-free professional consultation and referral services for staff and faculty who experience work and personal-related difficulties.  Immediate family members are also eligible for EAP services.  Confidential consultation is provided in areas such as work relationships, conflict resolution, mental health, interpersonal relationships, family, loss and bereavement, and alcohol and substance abuse.

Wellness Biometric Screenings

St. Thomas annually offers employees the opportunity to participate in a free wellness biometric screening‌ conducted onsite with Health Services typically during the month of April.  These screenings are a great opportunity to assess certain health factors without having to schedule an appointment and travel to a clinic or hospital.  All results are confidential and individual results are never shared with St. Thomas or its health plan administrator.  Employees will receive a customized report of their results, which they can share and discuss with their personal physician.  The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and is administered by licensed health care professionals. For more information visit the Health Services website: http://www.stthomas.edu/healthservices/biometricscreening/.

Flu Shots

UST Health Services and the UST Wellness Center offer Flu Clinics to all students, staff and faculty every fall.  The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.  The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year.  200 Vitality points can be earned for getting your annual flu shot.

Disease Management

When you or a family member must live with an ongoing health condition, there are medications to monitor, multiple health providers to manage, therapists to meet, benefits to understand, treatment choices to be made, lifestyle habits to improve.  With Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Dedicated Nurse Support program, you won’t have to go it alone.  A nurse will be assigned to your case and work with you over the phone to set goals, coordinate care, and help you make sound health care decisions.
