A Wealth of Health
Health Promotion Programs
Wellness is a lifestyle. It is a way of living that encourages good physical and mental health. Wellness is a balanced lifestyle that includes an emphasis on the body, mind and soul.
Annual HR Fair
Each year the Human Resources department sponsors a HR Fair. At the HR Fair representatives from the University’s medical, dental, life, vision, long term disability, long term care and retirement plans provide information on wellness and health care.
Health Risk Appraisal
St. Thomas offers employees the opportunity to participate in a free wellness screening. These screenings are a great opportunity to check your health without having to schedule an appointment and travel to a clinic or hospital. All results are confidential and never shared with UST or Blue Cross. Employees will receive a customized report of their results, which they can share and discuss with their personal physician. The entire process takes less than 30 minutes and is administered by licensed health care professionals. Screenings are a great source of information on how to improve certain lifestyle practices or identify risk factors for preventable conditions. In some cases, the screenings surface undiagnosed conditions that can be treated at an early stage with a very good chance of success.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides cost-free professional consultation and referral services for staff and faculty who experience work and personal-related difficulties. Immediate family members are also eligible for EAP services. Confidential consultation is provided in areas such as work relationships, conflict resolution, mental health, interpersonal relationships, family, loss and bereavement, and alcohol and substance abuse.
Health Services and the Wellness Center offer Flu Clinics to all students, staff and faculty every Fall. The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year.
