VISION Trips: Student Experiences

Barbara Koehl - Health Promotion

My freshman year I took a VISION trip during J-term to Colorado. We spent our time doing small home repairs and cooking for a soup kitchen. I was really able to interact with the people who lived there and gain an insight into their lives and backgrounds. It was eye opening and very rewarding. I was not only able to serve others, but also learned a lot about myself and what I stand for. This upcoming spring break I will be traveling with the VISION program to the Virgin Islands to volunteer in a national park where we will be cleaning and camping out. I absolutely cannot wait!

I went on a VISION trip Guatemala this January and had an AMAZING time. We went during their coffee harvest, so we did a lot of coffee bean picking, along with tons of construction and reforestation projects. On the weekends we would travel to neighboring towns and explore. We had the chance to climb a portion of a mountain as well when we were there. The trip was one, non-stop work out...so much fun. We also met tons of wonderful people; the Mayan culture is wonderful.
