Pre-Health Professions
Preparing at St. Thomas for Graduate Health Programs
No matter what kind of health professional you aspire to be, we have faculty and staff dedicated to advising you throughout your undergraduate career. You will receive support in choosing courses, a major and co-curricular experiences based on your interests. You will also receive assistance with the process of applying to a graduate health program, along with individualized advising based on your goals.
In addition, we host a variety of events throughout the year focusing on the health professions, and we invite admissions representatives and community partners from an array of health professions to talk with students about their opportunities after graduating from St. Thomas.
Your Degree Options
Many of our students with interests in the health professions major in the natural sciences, but just as many, if not more, begin their professional training after majoring in the humanities or social sciences.

Deepen Your Knowledge
Involvement in research is crucial to building and demonstrating competencies in scientific reasoning and teamwork. St. Thomas students have the unique opportunity to get involved with faculty-led research as early as their first year on campus.
Study Abroad
Graduate health professions students have multiple opportunities to study abroad. From studying organic chemistry in Rome to examining the cognitive processes of whales in Hawai'i, you will gain a new perspective of the world.
Get Involved
The Pre-Health Professions and Pre-Dental Clubs are sources of information, peer mentoring and activities for students interested in health careers. They host events each year such as alumni panels and presentations from admissions representatives.
Give back
Professional schools want to admit people who understand that healthcare is a service to humankind. St. Thomas offers a diverse array of volunteer opportunities so you have the chance to get out and serve the community.

Henry, David, and Sam were all selected for the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program, an extremely selective nationwide programs that fully funds students' four years of attending medical school. Twenty-four students are selected annually from more than 2,000 commissioned officers.

The Health Professions Advisory Committee
The Health Professions Advisory Committee is comprised of faculty from science, social science and humanities divisions, as well as staff from Academic Counseling. The committee provides an evaluation letter for students and recent alumni applying to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools. The letter is based on the student’s academic and disciplinary record, recommendations from three St. Thomas faculty members and a panel interview with the applicant.
