Our Services
The Grants and Research Office supports scholarly inquiry in a number of important ways. At the core of our mission is a commitment to assist faculty and staff as they seek funding from governmental agencies to support research, curricular enhancement and reform, and partnerships with communities outside of the University of St. Thomas.
Specifically, the Office helps faculty and staff:
-
find sources of funding from among governmental agencies by tapping online search engines and other resources;
-
access and use online submission engines that state and federal agencies commonly use (Grants.gov and Fastlane and others);
-
understand and interpret complex agency guidelines and solicitations;
-
develop budgets for grant proposals that are accurate and constructed in a way that is consistent with agency guidelines and institutional policies;
-
create more effective project designs and write more compelling narrative texts;
-
secure and document the commitment of internal resources in support of sponsored projects;
-
navigate the internal review and approval process that is required of all proposals prior to their submission to an external sponsor;
-
conduct follow-up communications with state and federal agencies, interpret reviewers' comments, and position themselves to re-apply when a proposal is not funded.
In addition, the Office helps undergraduate students:
-
carry out in-depth collaborative research with UST faculty (Collaborative Inquiry Grant Program);
-
pursue intense summer research with UST faculty (Young Scholars Program);
-
live on-campus while conducting summer research (Summer Housing Grant Program); and,
-
present research findings at academic conferences (Student Travel Grant Program).
Finally, the Office supports research by:
-
helping to coordinate the protection of human research subjects;
-
enhancing institutional compliance with federal policies; and,
-
providing specialized training programs for faculty, staff, and students.
-
publishing paper and digital verions of two publications, Exemplars and Collaborative Inquiry at UST, to highlight research being conducted at the undergraduate, graduate ,and faculty levels.
