LETTER FROM PRESIDENT DEASE
Ten
years ago, I oversaw the development of a new graphic identity for St.
Thomas as we grew from college to university status. In those 10 years,
we have seen continued growth and change, and while we are introducing
a new look to our graphic standard, it's an evolutionary change rather
than a dramatic departure from the original.
Like the university, this evolution remains true to our heritage. As we
grow, it is more important than ever to have one standard graphic that
identifies our dedication to our mission.
The university has many qualities that distinguish it from other institutions
of higher learning: our teaching in the Catholic tradition, our celebrated
faculty, our dedicated staff, our outstanding students and alumni, and
even our architecture. All these and more are reflected in this strong,
classic design.
Some people at the university believe that the identifier may be altered
to suit their individual wishes. I would ask you not to modify the approved
logo in any way. It is crucial that we present a consistent image to our
public. Therefore, I must insist that all departments and units of the
university use this new identifier according to the guidelines laid out
in this Web manual.
