Mini Master of Information Technology (Mini IT)

The Mini IT is designed for anyone in any discipline who wants an understanding of critical and cutting edge topics, current practices, and issues in information technology that are necessary for every professional and for any organization's competitive advantage.

The Mini Master of Information Technology program highlights many of the topics covered in the courses taught in the Graduate Programs in Software (GPS).  Sponsored by the Graduate Programs in Software, it is offered fall and spring semesters. There are no prerequisites.

The Mini IT consists of fourteen sessions presented once a week for 14 weeks.
Topics include:

  • Software Project Management
  • Bioinformatics
  • Enterprise Architecture and Development
  • IT Outsourcing
  • Pattern-Based Software Development
  • Designing and Building Web-Enabled Applications
  • Computer Security Essentials
  • Database Management Systems
  • Mobile Communications
  • Data Mining
  • Data Warehousing Environments and Decision Support Systems
  • Applying Human Factors to User Interface Design
  • Day in the Life of a Hacker
  • Legal Issues in Technology.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded instead of college credit. Those who complete all 14 sessions of the Mini IT will receive 4.2 CEUs. A certificate of completion is awarded to those who attend at least 10 of the 14 sessions.

The Mini Master of Information Technology is held on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas. In addition, the Mini IT series can be made available off-site for organizations to hold at their company campus.
