Tim has had a variety of careers and volunteer callings for the last three decades. In the early 1970s, he managed a mail order music business, while studying Physics and Mathematics.Over the next decade and a half, he worked as an expediter at Univac, a programmer at Sears, an office manager for the Energy Companies of Mid-America, and gave science demonstrations as a staff member at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
In 1987, he began work for the Computing Center at the University of St. Thomas. A few years later, he began working exclusively for our Computer Science and Software Engineering programs. Tim helped with the planning of the Frey Science & Engineering Center, and works closely with a small staff and two dozen student workers to keep our classrooms, labs, software, and other computing resources running smoothly. Recent projects have included lecture capture, virtualization and supporting the Center of Excellence for Big Data.
In addition to his work as St. Thomas, Tim’s other activities have included 25 years of volunteering at the Science Museum of Minnesota, playing drums, writing software, developing science demonstrations, producing YouTube science videos, creating a wildflower rain garden, sustainable living and environmental stewardship. He has arranged tours of a nuclear power plant, wind farm and much more. Tim regularly attends regional events such as the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair, and is exploring Community Solar.
