Psy.D. Admission Requirements

A master's degree in counseling psychology, or its equivalent, is required for admission.  The degree must have been awarded by a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Degrees may be considered equivalent if they are predominantly psychological in content and include:

1. A counseling practicum;
2. Courses in all of the following areas:
a. Statistics or quantitative research design
b. Biological bases of behavior  (e.g., Psychobiology, Psychophysiology)
c. Social psychology or group dynamics
d. Psychological assessment or measurement theory
e. Personality or counseling theory
f.  Development (i.e., career, family, or life span)
g. Psychopathology
h. Counseling skills and techniques
i.  Counseling ethics

Candidates for the Psy.D. program must submit all materials by  Feb. 1 of the year in which they are seeking admission.

1. Completed application forms and $50.00 fee
2. One official copy of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts
3. Two letters of recommendation addressing the candidate's suitability for the program
4. Graduate Record Exam score (school code: R6110); department code: 2005  
    Test scores obtained within the previous 5 years will be accepted.
5. Candidate's statement of purpose - part of the application form.

Finalists are invited for an interview with the faculty.

Students who are offered admission are required to attend an orientation prior to beginning the program.

Psy.D. Financial Aid

Graduate assistantships are available each academic year. Graduate assistants will be selected by a faculty committee and may be assigned to work with a specific faculty member. Applications are due by August 15th of each year for the following academic year.

The Graduate School of Professional Psychology offers a limited number of diversity grants. Qualified students who have been accepted for admission and are enrolled in doctoral classes are invited to apply. Grant recipients will be selected by a faculty committee. Applications are due August 15th  of each year for the following academic year.

Program Costs

The program tuition for the academic year 2008-2009 is $777.00 per credit hour
