Frenchman Mountain and Rainbow Gardens, east of Las Vegas, Nevada. Our first mapping project was in this area. Sunsets were spectacular!!


In Death Valley, where evaporation is way greater than precipitation, the valley floor is covered in salt deposits, like these in the photo. Several days were spent in Death Valley, studying the varied and complex geology of this fantastic and weirdly beautiful place.


Zabriskie Point and Manly Beacon (on left side of photo) in Death Valley National Park. Not a bad place for a hike and a peek at ancient lake deposits.
