The Department of Geography offers a major and minor in geography, as well as a geographic information systems (GIS) minor and a concentration area in GIS. The GIS minor is well-adapted to majors in the physical and social sciences, including education, biology, environmental studies/environmental science, and business.
The department promotes active research, internships, student research grants, collaboration between faculty and students and service learning. Geography students gain a solid foundation in geographic principles and techniques, as well as a deeper understanding of how the interactions between people and the environment shape the landscapes we inhabit.
Problem solving, critical thinking, data analysis, communication, and collaboration are hallmarks of our discipline. These proficiencies are sought by employers everywhere. With foundations in both the natural and social sciences, geography prepares students for a wide range of careers in government, the private sector, and education.
