Geography Geocaches

The UST Geography Department hid its first geocache back in April, 2007, and it has become a popular destination for geocachers who like to travel along the shores of the Mississippi River.

The cache, UST Geography Geocache, can be found at the following coordinates near UST's St. Paul campus:
44° 56.385’ W; 93° 11.891’ N

Students from our Fall, 2007 Remote Sensing course hid a second cache near campus called Holy Fungus! This cache can be found at the following coordinates, close to the UST Arches:
44° 56.486’ W; 93° 11.472’ N

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS (global positioning systems) users. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache and sign the logbook.
